Bucksmore Home Stay tutors deliver unique and tailored courses for every student.
All aspects of the course - from lessons and skills, to leisure time and even cultural visits - can be customised according to the student's needs and learning objectives.


Our English immersion course packages consist of between 15 - 25 hours of tuition, personalised course, accommodation and meals at the teacher's house, 2 half day local area excursions and 1 full day excursion for stays of more than one week. The course is held in the teacher's home.
We always ask teachers first before placing students with them and where possible we match students and teachers based on shared interests and backgrounds.
Teachers must be based in the UK or Ireland and be able to host students in their own home. As such, we will not be able to get back to applicants not based in the UK or Ireland.

Home tutoring is a rewarding role, providing the tutor has the necessary empathy and personal skills to welcome the student into their homes. Bucksmore Home Tuition is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The post holders responsibilities for safeguarding the welfare of the young students for whom they are responsible will be to adhere to the Bucksmore Home Tuition Safeguarding Policy.


Teaching and Academic Duties:

-Teach between 15-30 hours of English and/or subject tuition per week depending on the Bucksmore programme

-Plan, prepare, and deliver a weekly academic and social programme tailored to the individual student's needs and ensuring it is sent to Bucksmore Head Office

-Make every effort to create a positive learning environment so that students are able to participate purposefully throughout the lessons

-Encourage student participation through a positive and enthusiastic manner in all classroom activities

-Employ teaching techniques appropriate to the level and needs of each student

-A sound knowledge of effective language teaching techniques and how these may be applied to teaching young learners

-Ensure all materials and equipment are in place before lessons start

-Complete end of course progress reports and send to Bucksmore Academic Manager

-Agree to be observed by the Head Office Academic Manager as appropriate

Non-Teaching Duties:

-Deliver 2 half-day trips per week, and 1 full-day weekend trip per week for courses of 2 weeks or longer (in line with budget)

-Cultural understanding Provide three meals a day and packed lunch on full-day excursions

-Provide risk assessments prior to excursions and activities outside of the home Participate, lead, guide and supervise during activities and trips

-Respond to general emergencies at all times Maintain proper levels of student discipline, safety and welfare

-Ensure that all safeguarding and welfare responsibilities are adhered to, and in providing 24/7 pastoral care

-Agree to mandatory home visits every 2 years in keeping with safeguarding and accreditation requirements.

If you are short-listed, you will be invited to an interview with the Bucksmore Recruitment Manager. Successful candidates will be invited to a second interview with the Bucksmore Academic Manager. Successful candidates will undergo an enhanced DBS check, and must provide a copy of their identification (e.g. passport, driving license) for our records. Successful candidates will have to complete the below before they can host students: Submit a profile text and photographs of student areas in the house, as well as a profile picture, to create a teacher profile Submit all required documents (qualifications, gas safety certificate, risk assessments, junior declaration, teacher code of practice, safeguarding certificate etc.) A home visit performed by one of the Bucksmore Head Office Staff

Students attending a Bucksmore Home Tuition programme receive a combination of English language or subject specific tuition combined with an activity/social programme which includes two half-day trips/activities per week, in addition to one full-day trip per weekend for courses of 2 weeks or longer. The teacher will plan the course in advance, creating a customised timetable for lessons, meals, activities and trips.

You must have the eligibility to live and work in the UK or Ireland and be a homeowner or evidence of a long-term contract for rented property.

Qualifications

We ask that our teachers have an English teaching qualification such as the University of Cambridge (CELTA) or Trinity College (TESOL) qualification.
For school teachers, we request a postgraduate teaching qualification either a PGCE in the UK or PGDE in Ireland.
