We have been running a residential Summer School for over 30 years. Boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 17 visit us, either in small groups or as individuals, for any number of weeks during the course. Students come from all over the world, creating a uniquely diverse and friendly atmosphere, which is cherished by students and staff alike. The courses are constructed carefully to give each and every student the opportunity to improve his or her English whilst, at the same time, taking advantage of a huge range of sporting and social opportunities, in the form of activities and excursions. By living and studying together, the course encourages students to speak English with one another and to experience one another’s cultures. The Brooke House College Summer School is our own course. The majority of the Summer School teachers, activities and residential staff work at the college during the academic year and so are qualified, professional and experienced. They create an atmosphere of friendliness within the college, with their primary concern being the care and welfare of the students, many of whom are away from home for the first time in their lives. A measure of the success of the Brooke House College Summer School is that many students return to the course year after year to repeat the Summer School learning experience time and time again.

Details of Position

The Brooke House College Summer School, a British Council Accredited School, is more than 50 years old. The course is one of the most highly sought after of its kind, and testament to this is given by the fact that students regularly return year after year to repeat their experience. A number of the agents who send Summer School students have been doing so since the course started and many have been recommending the course to their clients for more than ten years. The Summer School, like Brooke House College itself, has developed a reputation among educational agencies, parents and students for being safe, organised, enjoyable, relaxed and friendly. The course offers students the opportunity to learn English, experience British culture, visit England's major tourist attractions and have a great deal of fun.

We are recruiting Summer School Teachers to join out team in Summer 2025. Teachers are scheduled to 15 hours of lessons per week - 09:00 to 10:30 and 10:45 to 12:15, preparing students for Trinity's Graded Examination in Spoken English. In addition teachers attend a one hour CPD each Wednesday afternoon and Friday afternoon Prizegiving ceremonies to present their departing students a course certificate and class report.

Contracts run from Wednesday 25th June to Friday 22nd August.

Degree Required

Applicants should have one of the following required qualifications:
Cambridge CELTA, Cambridge CELTA online, Trinity CertTESOL, BA TEFL, BA TESOL, Cambridge DELTA, Cambridge DELTA Online, Trinity DipTESOL

Teaching experience: 1 years

Salary and Benefits

- £385.00 - £430.00 per week for the prescribed working hours,
- £22.16 per hour for additional teaching hours.
- An additional £30.00 per week for candidates that have completed the CELTYL
- Statutory holiday pay (currently 5.6 weeks per year) is paid pro-rata with the final salary payment.
- Private room in shared staff accommodation and all meals provided throughout.

Job Summary

Our courses follow a teaching programme which is designed to help students improve their confidence in spoken English whilst developing grammar, listening, reading, writing and vocabulary skills. This is done through a communicative syllabus featuring lots of task-based activities in themed weeks and lessons linked to your excursions. The syllabus also provides a thorough preparation for the Trinity College Graded English Speaking Exam.
