The Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes will teach and facilitate learning on a range of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) modules on the International Foundation Year and support English provision across a range of validated degree programmes offered at the School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries, located at the Hebei University Baoding campus, Hebei Province, China.

The International Foundation Year programme delivers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) which is an integral part of the four-year undergraduate degree programme. As a credit-bearing programme, it is designed to develop the English language skills that our students require to fully engage in their academic programme. The school is also developing further English provision within the BA Hons and Masters programme modules, to support the continuation of the skills acquired in year 1 of the academic programme.

HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries, is a non-independent status Joint School partnership between Hebei University, China and the University of Central Lancashire, UK (approved by the Ministry of Education China). Established in 2014, the joint school recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary. HBU-UCLan currently has around 800 students which will increase to 1200 over the next few years. Students study the following UCLan degree programmes:

BA (Hons) Animation
BA (Hons) Creative Advertising
BA (Hons) Filmmaking
BA (Hons) Graphic Design
BA (Hons) Interior Design
BA (Hons) Media and Television Production
MA Interior Design
MA Music Industry Management & Promotion

THE ROLE
The International Foundation Year modules are taught over two semesters by a core team of EAP and TESOL specialist English speaking lecturers. As an EAP lecturer, you will be responsible for delivering Academic Literacy, Language Proficiency and ESAP modules to our first year students, studying a range of design and media subject disciplines. Further to this, you will provide in-sessional support to the BA Hons and MA programmes. A full-time post, the EAP lecturer will deliver up to 18 hours of face to face classes per week.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The successful applicant should have a good honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant English or Arts and Media subject, an MA in a related EAP discipline and hold a relevant professional/teaching qualification such as CELTA/DELTA or equivalent.

The successful applicant should have substantial and relevant experience of teaching English for Academic and/or English for Specific Purposes overseas or in a non-English speaking context at university or foundation year level.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS
Teaching posts at HBU-UCLan are regulated by Chinese Labour Law and Hebei Provincial Government regulations. These regulations stipulate that the post holder must have a Masters degree qualification (in a related discipline).

Two years relevant experience of teaching English for Academic and/or English for Specific Purposes at university or Foundation year level, is essential to working and obtaining a visa in China.

For this type of post, they require the post holder to be a native level English speaker with citizenship of the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, or South Africa.

The post holder must comply with Chinese Labour Laws and Hebei Provincial Government regulations to obtain a Chinese work permit and entry Z visa (restrictions apply), this includes a Police/Criminal Records Check and Health Check. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal work with regards to obtaining work permits and visas. The regulations in this province may preclude people over the age of 60 from obtaining a PRC work visa.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL
-Experience of developing teaching and learning resources and assessment of EAP modules.-
-Ability to inspire students through teaching and adjust to their learning needs, providing effective and supportive pastoral care.
-Competent in IT and technical skills, including being familiar with using Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard, Teams or equivalented
-Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team and to take on and accept responsibility and work to deadlines.
-Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and students within a cross-cultural educational environment, particularly where English is not their first language.
-Excellent presentation skills.
-Ability to adapt to cultural change through living and working in Baoding, Hebei Province, China.
-Ability and willingness to be flexible according to HBU-UCLan semester dates and scheduled delivery times.
-Commitment to high quality teaching and facilitating student engagement.

Salary and Benefits

£26,568 per annum (pro-rata) renumeration + benefits
Fixed Term Contract from August 2025 to July 2026, with potential extension on an academic yearly basis.
