Job Summary

Details of Position

Fettes College's own residential summer school, Fettes Centre for Language and Culture (FCLC Edinburgh) has had 17 successful summers and is accredited by the British Council. Fettes College is situated in 90 acres of private grounds just one mile from Edinburgh's historic city centre. We are recruiting enthusiastic and dedicated staff to work in July and August 2025. We pride ourselves on offering a superb team environment for all staff with excellent terms and benefits.

FCLC's mission is to enrich our students' lives by offering a high quality, thought-provoking EFL programme that not only makes them more confident users of the language but also broadens their horizons, promotes kindness and instils respect and acceptance of others.

In summer 2025, students will attend our programme from 29 June to 9 August on courses of one, two or three weeks. Our academic programme is divided into lessons for young learners (10-13-year-olds) and young students (14-17-year olds). Classes are multi-national, have an average of 12 students and a maximum of 14 students and cater for levels A1 to C1 (no classes for beginners or C2 level). The focus will be on creating maximum opportunities for students to communicate meaningfully in English. This will be achieved by language input, tasks and projects in the classroom and excursions structured around weekly themes based on great works of literature.

Teachers are responsible for delivering stimulating and challenging lessons based around our weekly themes and using a combination of FCLC's material and their own material, and will work 17.5 hours in morning classes plus 10.5 hours on afternoon excursions and activities as well as 7 hours' preparation/admin for a total of 35 hours per week.

Teachers must attend the induction days on Friday & Saturday, 27th & 28th June. FCLC will be able to provide accommodation from Saturday, 28th June.

FCLC will only consider applications from those who already have the right to work in the UK.

In line with our policy of safer recruitment, FCLC will check all potential hires as to their suitability to work with under 18s prior to making an offer of employment.

All references will be checked and will include a specific enquiry as to whether there is any impediment to the applicant being employed in a situation where they will have responsibility for, substantial access to and care of young people aged under 18.
