International House Torun has an excellent reputation for its continuous professional development that it offers its teachers.

Come and be part of our team!

Twice a week you may also have to commute to our satellite school in Inowroclaw (45 mins away). There is no weekend teaching, though on some Saturdays (no more than 4 a year) you'll be involved in some social events.

IH Torun is well-regarded within the International House network as an outstanding school which provides excellent professional developement for its teachers.

We welcome enthusiastic teachers who have some experience, though newly-qualified will also be considered.

Torun is a great place to live and work; certainly it's a home away from home! IH Torun is a small school but is very well-known within the ELT community for its great focus on teacher development. In 2023 we actually celebrated our 30th anniversary.

Every year, we organise the IH Torun Teacher Training Day which has had some big name ELT presenters in the past such as Jeremy Harmer, Scott Thornbury, Jill Hadfield, Adrian Underhill, Chris Roland, Anna Hasper, Jon Hird, Katherine Bilsborough, John Hughes, Hugh Dellar and Marjorie Rosenberg. We also offer extensive CPD opportunities.

If you think teaching English is your career and you want to progress and improve, then this is definitely the school for you.

QUOTE FROM A FORMER IH TORUN TEACHER:
'Come to IH Torun as a newly-qualified teacher, leave with a wealth of knowledge and experience.' - A. Assadi (Teacher, IH Torun)

IH Torun is a very stimulating place to develop your career in ELT. If you are new to the profession, there are many experienced and approachable teachers on-hand to help you, and the training and development available to you on a daily basis is of a very high standard. Similarly, for more experienced teachers, there are greater opportunities for personal development, such as becoming actively involved in giving seminars, presenting at conferences, writing articles or taking on a senior role. We also offer the IHCAM (IH Certificate in Methodology) course in-house every couple of years. For returning teachers there is also the chance to take the IHCYLT (IH Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers). Both courses are assessed externally by Cambridge.

Torun is very beautiful and really is a home away from home. Situated on the banks of the Vistula river, it is an historic medieval town with a population of about 240,000. It was the birthplace of the astronomer Nicholas Copernicus, and is famous for its local speciality pierniki (gingerbread). Unusually for Poland, Torun survived World War II intact, and the pedestrianised old town (centred around a magnificent medieval town hall and square) is full of stunning Gothic (and some Renaissance) architecture. Cobbled streets and medieval red-bricked walls are the norm here. The town is on a very human scale, so its a very pleasant place to stroll around. During the warmer months, its lovely to join the crowds walking, chatting and reading on the river bank. There is an attractive forested park on the edge of town, and more forests and lakes are a short bike ride away. Most distances are easily covered on foot, and for places further afield there are excellent tram and bus links. Taxis are also cheap and very reliable.

Torun is a university city, and this lends it a wonderfully lively atmosphere. There are lots of good bars and cafes, some nice restaurants and a few good clubs with great atmosphere. Some of these bars and clubs offer free/cheap live music during the week, and there are regular exhibitions (Torun boasts several museums, concert halls, art galleries and a planetarium). During the summer many bars and restaurants open tables outside in the picturesque old town. There are cinemas showing both Hollywood blockbusters and European independent films in their original languages, there are several good supermarkets, and as well as the main shopping street in town (Szeroka) there are two recently-opened shopping centres a short tram ride from the centre. Almost everything you could want to buy is available here. There are several bowling alleys, and some pubs offer pool tables and dart boards.

Torun is situated centrally in northern Poland, and rail and bus links to the rest of the country are excellent. The closest airport is Bydgoszcz (BZG), which is about 50 mins away. Gdansk (GDN) and Poznan (POZ) are also close and there is also an excellent rail link between Polands main airport Warsaw Chopin (WAW) and Toru (with a change at Warszawa Zachodnia).
